Is it possible to go for Hajj without a male Mahram?

Is it possible to go for Hajj without a male Mahram?
Before the advent of Islam, women were treated in the worst manner. They were dealt like animals, had no prestige, were sold to others, had no part in family’s matter regarding finance and were even buried alive when born.Islam was the religion that gave them honor and the rights to live like a human. It was the religion that treated them like human beings equivalent to men.
In Islam, women are obliged to cover themselves in a proper manner; in a way that does not be endowed to raise any negative thought or doing. It is considered to be against the so called “expression of freedom” because it does not give women the liberty to dress themselves the way they like. If we see on the other side it is totally for the sake of a woman’s protection and shelter. Islam gives them the prestige they deserve and the honor they carry.
For the same purpose, it is not a recommended practice in Islam to travel alone for a woman after a certain limit of distance. It is not allowed to Muslim women to go on a Hajj or Umrah jaunt without a male Mahram. The reasons are many but the main one is the protection of Muslim ladies that has been stated in many of the hadith. It was narrated that Hazrat Ibn e Abbas stated that Prophet Muhammad SAWW said;
“No women should travel without her Mahram and no man should enter upon a woman unless she has a Mahram with her.” A man sitting questioned to the Holy Prophet SAWW that he wants to go with such and such an army and his wife wants to go for the Hajj jaunt. Then Prophet Muhammad SAWW said “Go for Hajj with her.”
At another occasion Hazrat Abu Huraira RA narrated that Prophet Muhammad SAWW stated about women that;
“It is not permitted to a Muslim woman who believes (in the existence of) Almighty Allah and the Last day to travel for the distance of one day and one night except with her Mahram.” Some of the narrations say the time is of “two days”.
In the light of these hadith it is clear that a Muslim woman is not permitted to travel for a hauled distance without her Mahram (the one who can assure her safety).
Majority of the Muslims agree on the obligation of a male essential to go with a lady on her jaunt of Hajj. It is worthy to be clarified that the Mahram is the one male with whom a Muslim lady has no danger of being harmed in any mean. Mahram is the one who is trustworthy or putting in simple words, the one with whom you cannot marry nor have the peril of any sexual attack. It can be father, grandfather, son, husband, brother, nephew, maternal uncle, paternal uncle, grandson and son- in law.
However, there is a slight difference in views between the two sects of Muslims regarding Muslim ladies carrying Mahram; the Sunni sect and the Shia sect. Sunni sect is assured 100 % on the fact that the Sunni women are obliged to have a male Mahram along with them for their excursion of Hajj and Umrah. The rule is not specifically for Hajj and Umrah but is on travelling. A woman is not allowed to spend 92 kilo meters away from her Mahram. On the 93rd kilo meters she travelled, she requires a Mahram for sure and if she is not carrying a male Mahram along with her, then her jaunt will be considered as sin in accordance to the Sharia. All of the Sunni scholars agree on this obligation and of course according to this obligation, women are not permitted to go Makkah for the deliverance of Hajj.
On the other hand, Shia sect is collectively agreed on the rule that it is not necessary to have a male Mahram along with you at your excursion of Hajj or Umrah. In accordance to Shia sect, women are not forbidden to travel without their males and can perform Hajj even being the part of a group. It is also clarified over here that for travelling without Mahram, a woman and also her guardians must be sure that she will be in safe hands and will be safe during her excursion. In case of even a tiny piece of doubt will lead you to not go to perform Hajj in a group of people. Women must take care of their Hijab during their trip. It is also considered better to travel with a Mahram in Shia sect also. However in case of absence of a guardian (Mahram) she can travel with a trustworthy and a reliable group.
The groups for the Hajj can be a bunch of known or unknown people. In such situation, conditions are applied to travel with a group. Sometimes people plan their jaunt of Hajj inside their family, neighbors, and friends or among the people they know. Sometimes the groups are however made by the travel agent or the travel agency a pilgrim has to travel with. In such case, people are totally unfamiliar with each other and one cannot assure the shelter of an alone woman. It will then not be an appreciable practice to travel without Mahram even in the Shia sect concept. If a woman has panned to travel with her relatives or known peer then she can go on Hajj without her male Mahram.
On the other hand, Sunni sect is agree on a single fact and that is a Muslim woman cannot cross a distance more than 92 kilo meters except her Mahram and of course the travelling also refers Hajj and Umrah excursions. It is basically told to be avoided by the Muslim woman to spend night outside their homes (safe place) without their Mahram so as the Hajj is a hauled jaunt in which a pilgrim has to stay for a month or more from his or her home it is forbidden to travel alone for ladies.
